Drywall Repair

  1. Firstly, using a 24-inch level, draw a square outline around the hole, and then Using a drywall saw, cut three sides of the square outline. The drywall on the remaining side of the outline can now be removed using a utility knife.
  1. Get a 1-by-4 foot pine board that is a bit longer than the square opening in the wall. On the ends of the board, squeeze some adhesive onto it.  put the 1-by-4 into the hole with the glued surface properly facing the back of the drywall.
  1.  After the adhesive dries, a drywall patch is cut, the adhesive is applied onto the open surface of the 1 by 4 and the patch is pressed into place and secured to the stud using drywall screws.
  1. Remove dust from the wall and drywall patch by wiping with a slightly dampened sponge to remove any dust. Next, apply adhesive drywall tape over the four seams of the patch.
  1. Using a four-inch drywall knife, apply the first layer of your choice of joint compound over the tape and allow it to dry overnight. Then smoothen the dried compound.
  1.  Use an eight-inch knife to apply several skim coats of joint compound over the repair, and then sand it. Apply a coat of primer followed by paint.
